George, the problem with the CCD vs CMOS argument is further muddied by the
firmware that takes the output of the chip and does something with it before
it hits your memory card. There has probably been more progress made in
this firmware ( FW) than in chip design. Just as a memory kicker.... the M8
FW updates and how they have positively affected the image results.

I realize that investing in a camera is more than a body issue, especially
if you are going to change ALL your lenses for the "other" brand. You would
like that decision to last a while.

I think that is the main reason that folk pick Nikon or Canon... they
already have the lenses, and the only investment is in the body. $5K is bad
enough, but $5K plus a mess of lenses that may cost another $10K is a more
serious decision. I know that I have switched once only..... Canon FD to
Nikon. It was expensive, and I will not do it again. Although I do have
this R9 that I got in trade I am trying to sell.....before I get the itch to
buy Leica R lenses.....

Well, I did have original Contax RF then switched to Leica M.... THAT was
costly.

Oh, and I did have a Tachihara 4x5 then switched to a Wisner 4x5 and
switched to a TechniKardan 4x5.. that was not too bad as the lenses went
with the cameras......

We won't mention my 11x14... which used to be a Tachihara 8x10.......

Maybe I do not practice what I preach?

Having pursued the Canons from 10d to 20d to 5d - all CMOS.
Then using the DMR and M8 with CCD.
Seeing a technical and to my eye aesthetic improvement in detail and
dynamic range;
I have now a bias toward CCD (and wonder if this is the same bias
that keeps the Medium format manufacturers using CCD).
Then I wonder: Has Nikon achieved a major technical shift in CMOS
technology that will move the 'higher end' sensors and backs toward
CMOS (and away from CCD)?
