I loved and agreed with everything you said until this last sentence.  
Whether film or digital we've always had photographers and  
cinematographers who sought to "find" and "document" perfection in  
the "real" world. And those who sought to "create" perfection as they  
imagined it. The medium does not change the drive or sense of integrity.
