I believe many of us are on the same page in these matters.
Regarding the effect of the glass on the image qualities:
The Leica prime glass on the 5D out perform the Canon zooms at
almost any focal length.
yet
With the same Leica glass - The DMR image files out perform the 5D
image files at all but the highest iso speeds
