Subject: [Leica] no more R9 and R lenses

I applaud any company that maintains some degree of backward
compatibility. I'm sure it would be easier to only look forward and not
look back. But I've remained a loyal Nikon user because over the years
they've remained true to the F mount.

Isn't that what Nikon did with the F4?  It was one of the few AF  
cameras that could use the older AI-S lenses with the new matrix meter  
because, as I understand it, it had mechanical coupling for the older  
lenses in addition to the electronic contacts for the newer  lenses.   
I could be wrong.  Of course, I believe the mechanical coupling was  
ultimately dropped because of cost in later models.
