I've owned 6 desk top Macs 3 Mac Laptops since 1985 Not one has required any service. Those retired from my service retired as fully functioning machines. Currently running two towers and a laptop perfectly fine with Tiger OS. Probably time to upgrade the OS on the MacPro; yet no real need to do so. Another fully functional tower, sits idle, aging, waiting for a good home. Discussions re: upgrading an OS are simply that. Costs, cautions, software compatibility and procedures are more or less the same; whether Windows or Macs. Just tools.
