I too acquired a Mac in '84 as part of the university consortium (it's 
still in my basement).  In '84 us mac owners weren't considered "apple" 
guys, those self-identified stalwarts were Apple ][ users.  In the early 
80s, prior to the Mac, I had an Atari 800 because I considered it 
technically superior to the Apple ][.
