Hi Nathan,
as a kid here in England I never "celebrated" halloween, it was practically 
unheard of where I lived, never mind celebrated. Nowadays it is massive. 
Cynically I believe it was just another marketing opportunity that got 
tapped.
Christmas stuff is already in the shops here...
