But also on the other side is the many people who are potentially buying
photography who refuse to differentiate between a photographer and a camera
bug. Do they really think that their brother in law who buys and sells
cameras back and forth on eBay every day is a photographer? That they then
refer him to a friend to do their wedding or whatever with a camera he's
going to own for 3 months?

Its a step up they perhaps think then if they did it themselves with their
point and shoot. At least the brother in law has a fancy camera. He knows
how to turn his flash off.

And they don't need to have it look like it was shot by Avedon or Pen if
they've never heard of Avedon or Penn.

Nope we photographers get no respect.
Photography gets no respect.
It's an avocation not a vocation.
