Me too. I have been using ebay for 11 years, 90% as a buyer. I have had
around 400 transactions with 3 disappointments.
Two were condition issues where a camera was not accurately described. Only
one was, IMO, outright dishonesty and it was a bit of a shock.
I bought a tele-Rolleiflex from a buyer who seemed to be private. It was
described as having mild discolouration around the periphery of the front
element. To my surprise, when I won the auction the payee was Ffordes, a
substantial used camera dealer from whom I had bought a fair bit of stuff
over the years. When I got the camera the lens had balsam separation, common
with this lens. A private buyer may have been ignorant but he was simply
dishonest, and were extremely abusive when I complained, saying the price I
paid was cheap.
I have never bought anything from them since.
It was in 2003 and eBay rules have changed and basil58 no longer exists as a
seller AFAIK and the buyer is much better protected now to the extent that
selling is a hassle.
Goes to show even people you consider trustworthy may not be when
anonymous...
