Tina it is a complex subject. You cannot precisely calculate what will work
best for you from the starting diopter (-0.5) and your spectacles
prescription). I'd suggest that you take your camera to the doctor with you
and explain what's happening. You may be able to try your viewfinder
through the various test lenses. What you want is to be able to focus
clearly and comfortably on the frame-lines/RF patch which are at a virtual
distance of 2 metres (which is what -0.5 diopter means)
Some of the complications are that ageing eyes lose their ability to
accommodate (adjust to shifts) and how well they work at different light
levels and when tired. Astigmatism is a different issue again. A diopter
correction eyepiece is spherical and can't correct that error.
Good luck. Our demographic all battle this!

Cheers
