For me there are 2 things. I have been using iTunes to keep my address book
(contacts in Applespeak) and diary (calendar) synchronised between my iPod
(originally and subsequently iPad and iPhone) to my main computer which is
routinely backed up.
Mavericks no longer permits this, you have to use their iCloud to
synchronise these, and other items, meaning I can no longer have my own
backup of this information. I have tried using the cloud for iPhone and iPad
and having a hard copy on my main computer too, but it ends up with
duplicates with no way of knowing which is the one on the cloud and which on
the hard drive, and no way to tell which is the latest.
So I am screwed and can no longer operate the way I have for many years.
I understand that Apple has become mainly a mobile phone company nowadays
and that is where the vast proportion of their income comes from. I just
don't like what they are doing in computers any more. I guess computers as I
have known them are dying as a popular product.
I can see for most people a mobile device such as a phone or tablet is all
they need and easier to use but I regret it myself.
Having no backup is dimwitted so anybody not doing that is screwed due to
their own efforts.
I have no problem with separate hard drives, I just don't want them running
(noisily) continuously. My current Mac Pro has 4 hard drives inside. I have
3 Drobos and some others for backup, photos and films but they are noisy and
I shut them down when not using them.
With the new Mac Pro I would have to have some external drives connected all
the time and fast ones are noisy, so advertising the new model as quieter is
deceitful IMO.
Lovely styling though.
