I'm not Brian (and I don't play him on stage or screen), but I can provide
one
answer to that:

if you accept that:

  1) A Mac is a more pleasant and stable day-to-day computer on which to live
     and move and have your being, but

  2) there's some damned application which for some reason you need to use,
     and which for some reason is only available to run on Windows;

the rest follows. You'd rather not put up with being sentenced to use a
Windows box as your primary desktop computer just because of that damned
proprietary Windows application, and you'd rather not have two separate
computers running. So you live happily on a Mac, and run the
Windows program (atop a copy of Windows, atop a virtualizion framework like
VMware or Parallels, atop MacOS).

You get to live primarily with MacOS, you get that Windows application or
applications running there (until you can find a suitable replacement and do
away with the whole silly mess), and there's also a good chance that the
Windows instance on the Mac will be slower to pick up malware because you're
running a limited set of applications there, and presumably avoiding virus
vectors like IE or Outlook.
