Mike,

I have the old version of the 180 f2.8 and I am delighted with it. I have used it
for rugby and soccer pictures as well as just ordinary landscape situations where I
needed the focal length. The performance is superb and I have not seen the flare
problem one of the other posters alluded to. The only disadvantage I see is the
weight of this lens -- 1 kg (2.2 lbs) starts getting very heavy if you carry it
around all day. The new version is much lighter. Nevertheless, I am very happy with
the old 180; like you, I bought it initially for use on my Leicaflex SL, but when I
later added an R8, I had it converted to 3-cam by Leica.
