my observation was clearly uninformed, true, but by "design" i was commenting
on both the physical appearance and the ergonomic features, such as
using rings around the lens barrel.  but to your point, once doesn't really
know until one gets one's hands on one, and even then one don't really
really know until one has used it a while.
