I have examined un-modified output files from a Canon 1D (I think it was) 
made with the pre-modular 400mm f/2.8 APO-Telyt and with the Canon 400mm 
f/2.8 L IS and at f/2.8 there is a clear difference in image quality, the 
Leica lens showing more detail.  At smaller apertures there's a difference 
more of color cast than of image quality.
