Subject: [Leica] M9 firmware update and 3rd party batteries

Right (with the exception that the non oem chip can be added late in the
production process). Motorola chips their cell phone batteries and tried to
enforce their usage some time ago, but the practice was deemed monopolistic
and was shot down by the Dept Commerce (Yes, they actually did something to
protect consumers!).

Anyway, theoretically, I admit there's some very slight risk involved,
however, I don't know, nor have I heard of, any case of a li battery
damaging its gizmo. The usual caution of removing batteries for long term
storage should be practiced oem or 3party.
