I walk for our daily groceries too. I never use my car round the town we
live in, always walk.
I have had problems with walking when in the USA. I was asked to stay an
extra week to engineer a Champ Car at Homestead in Miami. I needed to do my
laundry and was in a hotel a short distance from a launderette, but could
find no safe way to walk there! I hate driving in towns.

My grandmother walked from their farm to school all her schooldays, 6 miles
each way, children don't expect this now. Mind you my grandchildren are now
used to walking with me the 2 miles between their house and ours.

But I am still 14 lbs overweight...
