Tina, you can always put Windows on a Mac to run your older legacy  
software. The newest 27" iMac has wonderful graphics. Many folks now  
buy a MacBook Pro for it's portability and power. Coupled with  
external hard drives, it can substitute for a desktop computer. An  
external color monitor is always available for your "home" station   
The question should be whether you intend to travel with it. What ever  
you decide, the Time Machine back-up system built into the Mac is a  
great thing to use. I never used to back-up data routinely. When I  
almost lost 1000's of images on a hard drive, I became  convinced I  
needed something more routine. Now I just have to make sure my hard  
drives are large enough for the task.
